What I Nom Today ~ Minado is the kind of place you maybe go twice a year. I've been twice now this week. Oh God, the humanity...it hurts, it buuuuuuuurns! At least now I'm getting more used to eating raw oysters...look, I had three...3...in one sitting!

What I Nom Today ~ An impromptu trip out to Natick brought me and MDH near our favorite sushi buffet place of all time. Three plates each later...food coma ensued :p

Guess what y'all? It's my birthday! Yup...getting older and wiser. So, I'm going to evoke birthday girl privilege by not trying to be all snarky and clever in my writing. In fact, I'm barely going to write...just describe what I did and ate!

My friends and I went to Fuji Steak House in Needham for some old school Japanese teppanyaki grill. Yeah, it's cheesy, it's corny, but still fun!

There was a little fruity cocktail action, a little sake, some steak and scallops and a whole lotta grilling and flaming action!
That's it??? That's all I'm gonna write? Yup, you see...when you get older, you also get more tired and cranky. I'm going to bed folks!

I haven't been to Harvard Square in a loooong time. To be fair, I've been a regular of the area ever since I started dating my husband...oh umpteen-million years ago...when he worked there. So, I remember tons of places that have come and gone since then. There was an awesome German restaurant that I regret only eating at once before it closed down. The Chili's...gone, but good riddance. The Greenhouse Cafe with its monstrous layer cakes taller than I am...au revoir.

Thankfully, as long as there continues to be a lack of real authentic Mexican food in the Cambridge area (which by the way, what do you expect being so far from the border?), then it looks like Border Cafe on Church Street is going nowhere. First of all, the requisite complimentary chips and salsa...can't complain about that. The chips are not too salty and super crispy. The salsa...pleasantly piquant and not too spicy. I seem to do okay with Asian spiced foodstuffs like kimchi, but I'm horribly intolerant of anything even considered mildly spicy in the realm of the chili peppers...jalapeno, habanero, ancho...I totally can't take it. Yup, I'm a lightweight. I suck.

I'm not too sure of the frozen sangria either. I should have just ordered a good ol' fashioned margarita or a shot of tequila. I forgot that with mildly spicy Tex-Mex foods, the last thing you want is a beverage that takes forever to drink and doesn't even quench your thirst! Plus, all that blended ice just ends up watering down your drink anyway. Not a good decision on my part. Just go with your ol' buddy Jose and order up a margarita on the rocks with no salt :)

Thankfully, the fish taco was superb! First of all, I looooooooves me some fish taco. I can't help it. I'm Filipino...we all have the fried fish loving gene. What made this fish taco (which was catfish BTW) excellente was the fact that the tender fish chunks were breaded and then fried and then stuffed with all the tasty accompaniments...pico de gallo, guac and cheese. Breading makes ALL the difference. It just adds that extra special fatty, crunchy taste to an otherwise bland grilled piece of fish. Trust me. The black beans and Cajun style rice round off the dinner platter quite nicely.
Now that I got my hankering for fish taco out of the way, the next time I go to Border Cafe, maybe I'll get to try the more authentic Mexican dishes like the enchiladas or the deliciously sounding Chicken Guadalajara. Hopefully, that won't take another few years!
